Valley Girl Celebrates Valley Heritage
Born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley, Nancy grew up a daughter of agriculture. She lived the food/ag story. To quote Nancy, "I recall precious memories; a harvest lunch at a melon packing shed. We sat in the defused light under netting used for sun protection. At butcher paper covered tables, we ate tortillas, beans and chili verde. I didn't realize then as I do now that food would be my destiny."

Nancy’s trek as a food professional included stints as a cooking instructor. Early in her career in 1979, Nancy traveled from her restaurant, La Famiglia Ristorante & Delicatessen, to teach at The Grape Tray’s sister store, Company’s Coming, the first retail gourmet store in California’s Central Valley, complete with an instructor’s kitchen. Ten years later, Nancy instructed for the health care industry. She created a series entitled ‘Leana Cucina’. Nancy says her Lean Cuisine packs in flavor, texture and presentation, not the pounds. An entertaining instructor, Nancy has made cooking appearances at Tulare’s Farm Ag Show, Fresno’s Big Fair and the Home Show.

As Host of Chanel 47 CBS affiliate cooking segments, ‘Be Our Guest', Nancy writes, “I found that I had become a Food Journalist. I researched the sites and developed the 'On Location' segments; the contents, the trends, the recipes, presented in the most exciting local venues. In fields and factories, on dairies and farms, in restaurants, wineries and even a brewery, we celebrated the artisans and food purveyors of the San Joaquin Valley, large and small. I believe that our culinary heritage in the San Joaquin Valley is the most exciting cuisine of today and is emerging in its own right as the 'San Joaquin Cuisine'.”

Nancy’s passion for Central California’s rich farm food heritage has resulted in the creation of the Blog, FarmTableFresh.Com. Her writings and stories reflect her Heritage, her Mother’s cooking and her devotion to local artisan fresh foods and purveyors, her ultimate gift, a connection to food and the Earth.
